Promises, Promises

In the company of family & friends I watched a historic event yesterday evening. The first ever televised debate between the leaders of our three main political parties, had come to our screens. Unlike the live audience, who were under strict rules not to cheer, clap or boo, we could give full expression to our feelings. With our ages ranging from early 20's to nearly 80 it was inevitable that our reactions varied considerably. There was however one question uppermost in all our minds; could any of them, would any of them, or even had any of them kept their promises.

Promises are being broken every day. I had promised myself that I would write my blog frequently, but was amazed to see that my last, and only entry so far, was about 10 months ago. As I do not suppose this has been a great loss to anyone, I will not bore you with any excuses. Yet there are no excuses if I fail to pray for those very leaders I was watching yesterday evening. As Christians we are urged to "pray especially for leaders and their governments to rule well---"(1 Timothy 2:2 The Message). It is an awsome thought that maybe politicians could, and would, be more faithful in their promises, if I and others were more faithful in our prayers for them.

"the Lord is faithful to all His promises" (Psalm 145:13b)
